my dog and algorithms
my dog is a rebel. She subverted her training and managed to train me instead. at first, she would get a treat when she obeyed the command and sat down, but then she simply started sitting in the middle of our walks and only resumes walking again after a treat. pretty smart.
I was thinking about that and realized that it's kind of the same with social media algorithms, isn't it? people think they're training the algorithm to deliver what they want to see, when in fact it's the algorithm that's giving positive reinforcement and conditioning people to stay longer on the platform.
the difference is that when my dog does it, it's just cute.
and she is the cutest
